The Harbor of the World

The Harbor
Of the world
Waits solemn
In the salty mist
For the dreams
And hopes
Of all fellowmen,
Their last farewell
Clutched
In the clammy
Hands,
The last shot
Of home
Indelible
In the eyes.
Poor and weak,
They have departed
From the unfertile roots,
And with half heart only
Now watch the ship
Enter the grey harbor,
Its dramatic generosity
Too often blurred
By disconsolate tears.

The motherly statue
Waves silent
And understands
All moans and sighs,
Her light
A majestic welcome
To the unknown awakening.
